Natural resource indicators, second quarter 2024
Real gross domestic product of the natural resources sector increased 2.0% in the second quarter, after a decrease of 0.6% in the first quarter.
Government finance statistics, second quarter 2024
The Canadian general government recorded a surplus of $6.9 billion in the second quarter. However, excluding the surplus for social security funds (Canada Pension Plan and Québec Pension Plan), the Canadian general government reflected a $7.4 billion deficit. Social security funds receive the highest levels of contributions in the first and second quarters of each calendar year.
Screened passenger traffic at Canadian airports, August 2024
In August, 5.8 million passengers passed through pre-board security screening at checkpoints operated at Canada’s eight largest airports, an increase of 6.0% from August 2023.
Food services and drinking places, July 2024
On a seasonally adjusted basis, sales in the food services and drinking places subsector increased for the fourth consecutive month, rising 0.5% to $8.1 billion in July.
Monthly Survey of Manufacturing: Flash estimate, August 2024
Statistics Canada is providing an advance estimate of sales in the manufacturing sector for August. Advance results indicate that total manufacturing sales decreased 1.5% in August. The largest decreases were in the petroleum and coal product as well as primary metal subsectors.
