On September 18, the Government of Yukon hosted the 31st annual Yukon Apprenticeship Excellence Awards. Celebrating excellence in apprenticeship for 53 apprentices and recognizing 38 journeypersons who received certificates of qualification, many with Red Seal designation. Awards of excellence are presented to individuals who demonstrated outstanding achievement during apprenticeship level or interprovincial Red Seal examinations.

These awards provide an important moment to come together and celebrate the dedication and success of apprentices and newly certified journeypersons. The ceremony also shines a well-deserved spotlight on the businesses, organizations and mentors who accelerate learning opportunities and drive the growth of the Yukon’s skilled trades and technology sector, shaping a brighter future for the territory.

In addition, seven industry partners awarded eight apprentices for excellence in the following trades:

  • automotive service technician
  • construction electrician
  • cook
  • industrial mechanic (millwright)
  • plumbing
  • sheet metal worker

This year’s cohort will join the 3,270 journeypersons who the Government of Yukon has certified over the past six decades. Currently, over 500 apprentices are registered in the territory.

Quick facts

  • Awardees and certified journeypersons represented 17 different trades and work for 59 different employers.
  • The Red Seal is the highest level of certification of trade expertise in Canada.
