The NFB’s Filmmaker Assistance Program returns January 30, 2025

The National Film Board (NFB) is pleased to announce the return of its Filmmaker Assistance Program (FAP), which supports English-speaking independent filmmakers across the country. Applications may be submitted to the NFB beginning January 30. Details are available here.

Since being established, the FAP has supported hundreds of independent filmmakers, in keeping with the NFB’s mandate as a public producer and distributor. The return of the program will ensure that the NFB supports a diversity of filmmakers, while increasing its level of assistance for each individual project.

As of today, filmmakers who wish to complete their post-production locally in their home city will be eligible for up to $7,500 in support for short films and $15,000 in support for feature-length films.

Filmmakers based in Montreal, or able to travel to Montreal, will have the option to access the NFB’s state-of-the-art post-production facilities at its headquarters.

“This program offers a unique way of supporting anglophone independent directors from all over the country,” said Suzanne Guèvremont, the Government Film Commissioner and Chairperson of the NFB. “Its newly established criteria mean that we guarantee better access to our services for filmmakers from all backgrounds and all regions, including those from linguistic-minority communities. I invite independent filmmakers to submit their projects starting now. I am also pleased to acknowledge the many filmmakers who provided support and constructive contributions: our conversations have helped enhance the FAP, to everyone’s satisfaction.”
