8th Annual First Nations Leading the Way Conference October 7 – 9, 20258th Annual First Nations Leading the Way Conference October 7 – 9, 2025
Don't miss the 8th annual First Nations Leading the Way Conference at the Hilton Toronto/Markham Suites & Conference Centre on October 7 – 9, 2025, in Markham, Ontario. This national gathering showcases First Nations at the forefront of expanding jurisdiction and highlights their success in improving their economies through greater fiscal independence, improved financial management, debenture financing, and sound land governance. First Nations Leading the Way features insightful discussions and presentations by First Nations and Indigenous organizations about building better futures for our communities. It’s also an opportunity to learn more about the supports and services available to First Nations, Tribal Councils, and Indigenous Health Authorities under the First Nations Fiscal Management Act (FMA) and enjoy cultural performances, a tradeshow, and opportunities for networking and collaboration. Our hosts, the FMA institutions (First Nations Finance Authority, First Nations Financial Management Board, First Nations Tax Commission, and the First Nations Infrastructure Institute) and the First Nations Lands Advisory Board invite two (2) representatives from each organization to attend the annual conference. Reimbursements For representatives from First Nations, Tribal Councils, and Indigenous Health Authorities, we offer travel and accommodation reimbursements to attend. Up to two individuals per organization can claim up to $1,500 each for their travel and accommodation expenses. This reimbursement is intended to assist with the costs associated with attending the event. Youth and Elder Participation We are excited to once again extend an invitation to 25 First Nations youth (ages 18-30) and 25 community-recognized Elders to join us at this year's event. This is a wonderful opportunity for the younger and older generations to come together, share knowledge, and engage in meaningful discussions. To ensure the most efficient and cost-effective travel arrangements, we will be covering the travel and accommodation expenses for selected individuals based on the most direct options available. If you are interested in attending as a youth or Elder, please register to be considered. Due to the limited spots available, priority will be given to those who apply early. We acknowledge that the land on which we gather is the traditional territory of the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Anishnabeg, the Chippewa, the Haudenosaunee, and the Wendat peoples and is part of the Treaty 13 territory and the Williams Treaties territory.
