Manitoba First Nations Police to replace RCMP on OCN – Winnipeg Sun

Effective Monday, Opaskwayak Cree Nation will transition from the RCMP to the Manitoba First Nations Police Service.

Opaskwayak Cree Nation (OCN) is located near The Pas, approximately 625 kms north of Winnipeg. The town of The Pas will remain policed by the RCMP.

Originally established as the Dakota Ojibway Tribal Council (DOTC) Police Department in 1977, the department has operated as the Manitoba First Nations Police Service (MFNPS) since June 1, 2018, and is the longest operating First Nation Police Services in Canada. MFNPS provides public safety and security of their Communities through education, enforcement, the delivery of various crime prevention initiatives and programs, as well as culturally appropriate policing.
