PSA – City opens call for Indigenous Artist-in-Residence applications

The City of Edmonton is accepting applications for the next Indigenous Artist-in-Residence.

Indigenous artists practicing in all styles of art, including traditional and contemporary Indigenous arts, fine craft, media arts, music, performing arts, visual arts and literary arts are eligible to apply.

The successful applicant will create a new body of work for a final showcase at the end of their term. Individual Indigenous Artists may submit an application. Audio or video submissions will also be accepted. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. on Friday, December 6, 2024.

The City will host an in-person information session for interested applicants to learn more about the program. Soup, bannock and light refreshments will be provided.

Time: 5:30 – 8 p.m.

Location: Room #440, The Orange Hub, 10045 156 Street NW

This is a paid, part-time opportunity with a total salary of $36,000. Applicants must be over 18 years old and commit to a minimum 20 hours per week over the course of a one-year residency. The start date and City workspace will be determined with the successful candidate.

The Indigenous Artist-in-Residence Program is a partnership between the City’s Indigenous Relations Office, City Operations department, Edmonton Arts Council, Indigenous artists and Knowledge Holders. The program supports Indigenous artists’ growth and development and recognizes their important role in influencing societal change through sharing of stories, knowledge and cultural understandings. The City’s previous Indigenous Artist-in-Residence was Matthew Wood, a.k.a. Creeasian, a dancer, DJ and music producer.
