Consumer Price Index, December 2024
The Consumer Price Index (CPI) rose 1.8% on a year-over-year basis in December, down from a 1.9% increase in November. On a seasonally adjusted monthly basis, the CPI rose 0.2% in December.

The Consumer Price Index rose 2.4% on an annual average basis in 2024, following a 3.9% increase in 2023.

Markups, the ratio of price over marginal costs, increased from 2001 to 2019, according to a new paper, “Estimating Markups Using Firm-Level Data: A Comparative Analysis,” released today.

In an effort to consider the potential impacts of these changes on the future evolution of the Canadian population, today Statistics Canada releases a new edition of its population projections for Canada (2024 to 2074), provinces and territories (2024 to 2049).
